Survey “Jazz Festivals in Europe”

(Survey in preparation)

The purpose of this study is to collect market & benchmark data in the area of jazz festivals performed throughout Europe. This questionnaire is aimed at managers and promoters being in charge of jazz festivals.

This survey is a follower to a previous research from 2000 and reports on a wide range of countries and topics by using the same research methodology. Main focus areas are:

  • General festival data – festival audience & performance data – financial data
  • Festival goals, strategies, roles, artistic visions, innovations and marketing concepts
  • European inventory of economic volumes und regional effects created by jazz festivals
  • Present market situation (number of festivals, programme, styles, marketing efforts, etc.)
  • Festival market segmentation per type of event (size - program - duration - relevance)
  • Structure of revenues / income (ticket sales, grants/subsidies, sponsorships, others)
  • Structure of costs / spending (musicians, staff, rent, marketing, technical costs, administration)
  • Specific comparison ratios (economic impact effects / indirect profitability, grant-return-ratios)

Projected run-time schedule: postponed to 2024 - due to CoVid19 pandemic situation etc.

All information asked in the questionnaire should relate to the last full festival edition without effects from CoVid19.

Thank you for taking the time to participate in our survey. This survey should take about 45 - 50 minutes to complete. Due to the wide range of topics it may be necessary to involve consultation with other members of your festival organisation.

We will compile the data, keep individual responses strictly confidential and will not identify you or your organisation in relation to any specific response.

All active participants of this survey will receive in return a results summary report immediately after the survey is completed.
